The Super 6 have made it through their first week!
It's been a week since the program began, and the two-weekers are already talking about how much they will miss the others when they have to leave this week..awww! The arrival weekend started with an orientation, teacher training, and a group dinner in Fort Kochi.
On the first Monday the volunteers experienced a political strike action in Kerala, called because of a rise in petrol prices! With no school, the volunteers stayed home planning the next day's lessons, watched the FIFA action on television, and just hung out.
Starting Tuesday, all of us were in the school by 8am with the students, giving them one-to-one lessons! It was great to see all of the volunteers so involved right from day one. They helped out in the classroom and even stayed back after school to give one-to-ones.
The kids just love them and the teachers are so happy to have a bit of help. On Friday we were hit by monsoon flooding, and so couldn't go to school again...which meant time to play UNO and some fun card games at home. That night however we managed to go out for some beers at a local fish restaurant in Fort Kochi,...much deserved after the hard work they put in at school ;)
The fun didn't end on the weekend, as all the volunteers went off to the backwaters and stayed overnight on a houseboat...c'est la vie !!
