Poonum's thoughts

I’m writing this blog in my last few days of the project and I never thought I would be so sad to leave a place! The adorable kids at the boys’ orphanage, the beauty of Fort Cochin and the Kerala region, not to mention my crazy new family!
It’s definitely true when they say you make the best friends on these trips. Friends who I’ve had deep and meaningful conversations with until the early hours of the morning whilst on a boat in the middle of the backwaters with no one for miles! Friends who I had adventures with, like going to Trissur Pooram festival to watch men on elephants changing umbrellas (you have to see it to believe it!)
When they first told me that I would be standing in front of a group of teenage boys teaching them English, I thoughNever in a million years! But you get so much encouragement and support, that anything is possible. My own personal achievement was playing cricket with the boys and actually being able to hit the ball! I think they were impressed too!
The kids are so easy to work with and so grateful of anything you do for them that it makes it all worthwhile. They have inspired me with their energy and enthusiasm.
So this is why I’m so sad to leave…
