Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us!!!
WOW what a difference a year makes! Or even 2 years for that matter. It has come that time again where GVI Kerala is celebrating it's birth on the Sub-Continent. Over the course of the last 24 months GVI Kerala has taken many differing roads to be able to get where it is today. These roads have been slippery, fraught with blinding corners, things have often moved at incredible speed, things have also come to a screeching halt, and then there are the times where the road disappears from under you. But hey this is India, and we love it!
I'm sure that I can vouch for all the volunteers and staff who have been through this program, that it is a life changer. With now 2 amazing schools, filled with kids, who have personalities that seem to come straight out of a comic book, it is always entertaining and fulfilling. So from the ladies groups, to the boys and girls homes, the teachers, and the students we would like to give a heart felt thanks to all that have come thorough the program and impacted positively and helped move this place forward over the last 2 years to see now what it is today.
It is not always easy to see the changes that have been made to a program when people are here for a short time, but trust me there have been huge changes. Seeing volunteers going home and changing careers is hugely rewarding, but of course it has been the effect that this program had had on the kids and schools, to see the changing perceptions of what we are doing and the effect on the students, parents commenting on their child's improvement and of course watching the Manipur kids grow has been nothing short of amazing.
Now as GVI Kerala sets itself for the next chapter, we are doing it Indian style, when it's your birthday you give others gifts.
