Auxilium Olympics
Last Friday was sports day. A day when the learning stops and the competition starts! When I hear the words Sports Day I think of when I was little and we would all get a break from school to go play some tag games and maybe a win a prize at the end of the day. Sports Day at Axilium School is nothing like that. The students are brocken up into teams: Emerald, Safire, Diamond and Ruby. The the start of the day each team separated into perfectly army straight lines and began to march as one, around the school grounds. I have never seen anything like it. These students, who are usually running, playing and fooling around were now marching so straight and pristinely you would think you were watching the royal army itself. And the school even had its own torch to light at the beginning of the ceremony. After the marching there were some speeches from Sister Annie, Mother Superior and a guest speaker who came to bless the games. And then it was GVI’s turn. The night before sports day all of us hurriedly put together a cheer for the school, we rehearsed it perfectly but when we stood in front of an army of 500 students we all froze and our performance was humiliating in my opinion. But thankfully one of the volunteers, Daria, sang an amazing version of “Lean on me” and everyone forgot about our cheer. And after that, the games really began! There was long jump, sprint, three legged race and a tug of war to finish the day off. While many of the games were taking place, Harkiran and I, with the help of 4 teachers where able to franticly serve lemonade to 500 kids!! But we were successful and as a reward we got to drink all the lemonade we wanted. Once all the races had been completed the winners were announced. Each winner was able to stand up on the podium and receive a browns, silver or gold crown. At the end of the day we were all exhausted but we had so much fun, and we could all tell that the teachers as well as the students had had a wonderful Sports Day.
